(ሙሉ  ገ.) ታኅሳስ 17 ቀን 2003 ዓ.ም አዲስ አበባ መላው ኢትዮጵያ አንድነት ድርጅት (መኢአድ) ለሁለት ቀን ያደረገውን 2ኛ መደበኛ ጠቅላላ ጉባዔ ሲያጠናቅቅ  “በጤንነት እና በዕድሜ ምክንያት ውልጣናቸውን ለተተኪ ወጣት ማስረከብ” እንደሚፈልጉ ሲናገሩ የነበሩት  ኢንጂነር ኀይሉ ሻውል ብቻቸውን ተወዳድረው በድጋሚ የፓርቲው ፕሬዝዳንት መኾናቸውንም አሳውቋል።  አቶ ያዕቆብ ልኬ ደግሞ የፓርቲው  ተጠባባቂ ፕሬዝዳንት ኾነው ተመርጠዋል። ፓርቲው  እሁድ ምሽት [...]

-ይኼ መንግሥት መቼም ትልቁ ድክመቱ ሕዝቡን መናቁ ነው። ሕዝቡ አይገባውም ብለው ነው የሚያስቡት።

-ይኸው አገርን የመሰለ ትልቅ ነገር አንድ ፓርቲ ኻያ ዓመት ሙሉ አፍኖ ይዞ አቆየ፡፡ ከዚህ በኋላ ደግሞ ምን ያህል ጊዜ እንደምንቆይ አናውቅም። ኢሕአዴግ እንደኾነ ከገጠር ምንም የማያውቁ ባላገሮችን አምጥቶ ነው ፓርላማ የሚከተው። አሁንም የሚቀጥለው እርሱ ነው። በፓርላማ ቆይታዬ በእውነቱ ጠቀምኩም፤ ተጠቀምኩም የምለው ነገር የለም። እንዲህ ዐይነት የተስፋ መቁረጥ ስሜት ነበር የሚሰማኝ።

-እኔ አሁን ብቻ ሳይኾን ገና ድሮ ኦነግ ሸፍቶ ወደ ሱዳን ከሄደበት ጊዜ ጀምሮ በፍፁም ኦሮሚያ ከኢትዮጵያ ነጻ እንድትወጣ የሚወራውን ወሬ፣ የሚነገረውን ንግግር ጭራሽ የማልቀበለው ሰው ነበርኩ፤ አሁንም ነኝ። ጥቂት ጎጥ ሊገነጠል ይችላል። አገር እና ሕዝብ ግን አይገነጠልም፤ መብቱን ለማስከበር፣ ዴሞክራሲን ለማስፈን ይታገላል እንጂ። እኛ ኦሮሞች በኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ ብዙ ሕዝብ ነን። የፖለቲካ ኀይል አግኝተን መብታችንን እንጠይቃለን፣ እናስከብራለን። እኔ በመገንጠል አላምንም። የተገነጠሉት ምን አተረፉ?

There is nothing innocent about development, especially development in a politically tortured country like Ethiopia. What is happening in the capital and in the rest of the country is part of a larger and more fundamental process: the reconfiguration of state and society. This goes in line with EPRDF’s, and all revolutionary regimes’, idea of rupture with the past and their belief in a fundamental reorganization of the present-future. The danger is the process, and the end-product, have been less democratic, less developmental, and less empowering. It seems that there is little changing; power is still alluring in its violent magnificence; and the past, in its autocratic essences, is still invading and shaping the present….This is nothing peculiar to Ethiopia. It had happened and it is happening in Africa and in the rest of the developing world. The politics of urbanization and urban modernization constitutes and is constitutive of the political-economy of state making. In the Ethiopian case, what is taking place in Addis Ababa mirrors the larger processes at work nationally: the democratization of disempowerment, the disenfranchising of development.

በኢትዮጵያ አምባሳደር ከነበርኩበት ወቅት አንስቶ በፕሬስ ነጻነት ላይ በኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ የበለጠ አዎንታዊ ለውጥ ባለመኖሩ አዝኛለሁ፡፡ ኹኔታው እንደ ድሮ ተመሳሳይ እና በአንዳንድ ገጽታዎቹም የኋሊት የተጓዘም ነው የሚመስለው፡፡ ለምሳሌ እኔ እንደምገነዘበው በኦሮምኛ የሚታተም ጋዜጣ ዛሬ በአገሪቱ የለም፡፡ በዘጠናዎቹ መጀመርያ አካባቢ በርካታ የኦሮምኛ ጋዜጦች ነበሩ፡፡ በዚያ ወቅት የነበሩ አንዳንድ ተቃዋሚ ጋዜጦች ሞያዊነትም ኾነ ሐላፊነት የሚሰማቸው አልነበሩም፡፡ ዛሬ ያለው ኹኔታ እንዲያ እንዳይደለ እገምታለሁ፡፡
